Anonymous: What does just war theory say about humanitarian intervention in places like Syria? Is it ever justified and if so what are the circumstances that need to occur to justify it?
Well, just war theory says that if we intervene in a conflict, it can only be:
1. in defense of the oppressed or attacked.
2. With only the necessary force, no more.
3. To reach a peaceable objective with a reasonable chance of success.
AND 4. Only after all peaceable methods have been tried.
If these 4 circumstances have been met, then just war theory would suggest we go to war.
