Anonymous: Why don't Catholics eat fish on Fridays during Lent?
Actually, on Ash Wednesday and Fridays during Lent, Catholics abstain from meat and eat fish/seafood instead.
In any case, fasting and abstinence is a manifestation of a person’s control over his/her physiological tendencies and instincts, which results in a greater freedom of the heart and soul (CCC 2043). This is often done in preparation for a great liturgical feast (Easter) as a form of intense penitence and spiritual exercise (CCC 1438).
