Anonymous:  Im Catholic and i love it, but i was wondering about angels. If God is omnipotent, omnipresent and all that other good omnistuff, why do we have guardian angels, and angels in general? what other purposes do they serve?

I don’t know a whole lot about angels— but I will share what I do know, and if anyone else has more insight into this feel free to jump in!

My first answer is that God created the angels.  I believe that like us, they exist to glorify God.  God is omnipresent and omnipotent.  The angels are not.  They are part of God’s plan for creation.  They are creatures as we are creatures.  Like us, they have free will.  But they are in the presence of God, and outside of time so their choice for or against God is eternal (that’s why satan and demons cannot be saved).

Guardian angels exist to be your guardian angel.  That is their purpose— they don’t become someone else’s guardian angel when you die.  They are created to be your guardian.  They protect you physically and spiritually.

I wish I knew more about angels.  Each and every angel is so different, it is its own species. And there are many types: Archangels, Seraphim, Cherubim… St. Michael the Archangel is credited for throwing satan out of heaven, which is why we pray to him in times of spiritual warfare.

I know this didn’t really answer your question.  That is about all I know about angels.  Aside from the fact that all the angels to be created have been created.  God isn’t still creating angels as he is persons.  Hope something in here was helpful.

    God Bless!
